Instructions for playing Metaphys (post banlist)

Are you so fed up with decks that are too purely meta and you have to accept bitter defeat with them every time? Me too, and fortunately, Duel Links never makes us give up too much on the game, they always give quite harsh ban lists as well as put anti-meta lines into the game to limit limit this power difference. And the Metaphys deck itself is one of those anti-meta decks. This will be my guide article for you to build your own Metaphys deck after the recent list ban.

With the main box release Blazing Rose comes the first line of Wyrm archetypes in Duel Links: Metaphys . True to their name, Metaphys monsters thrive after being banished before returning to the deck to gain momentum for their combos. The deck's strength lies in its ability to banish the opponent's cards during the player's turn, primarily through the use of Metaphys Dimension . Second, its reactive nature to what opponents are using is also a strength, if used optimally.

If they are banished, most Metaphys monsters can be shuffled back into the Deck and activate their effects, add cards from the Deck to the hand, banish cards from the Deck or Summon monsters special recovery from hand.

If they are Special Summoned by the effect of a monster of their archetype, Metaphys monsters will have additional effects, some of which can completely change the state of the field.

To be honest, after the recent nerf, the power of the Metaphys decreased significantly. Not only that, but they also give you an unmatched brick rate. Therefore, you will inevitably be beaten to the punch in the first turn by drawing all the Metaphys monsters and not being able to use any of them. However, some of the following Skills will keep your LP longer and help you survive over time such as Grit , LP Boost Alpha .

The problem of brick decks is unimaginable, but with the help of Destiny Draw and some handtraps that adjust your LP, you will reduce your brick rate and make your turns smoother. a little.

Can be used each time your Life Points decrease by 1800. Instead of doing a normal draw, "Allure of Darkness" is added to your hand from outside of your Deck.


This is only a temporary support as you will not be able to meet the condition of banishing a DARK monster to draw 2 cards, simply because Metaphys monsters are mainly LIGHT attribute. But it will be perfect when paired with Chaos Distill when you will have to discard all cards in your hand to the grave instead of the skill's first condition. Chaos Distill will banish those discarded cards and just like that your combo starts again and you get 2 cards in your hand again.

Use Metaphys Tyrant Dragon 's effect to Special Summon another Metaphys Tyrant Dragon from your hand, and use Asymmetaphys ' effect to reduce your opponent's monster's ATK and end the battle instantly.

Advice:
For setup, you may want to banish Metaphys Daedalus and use its effect to banish Metaphys Tyrant Dragon during your opponent's Stanby Phase. During your Stanby Phase, Metaphys Tyrant Dragon will then allow you to Special Summon a Metaphys monster from your hand.

If your opponent has a Special Summoned key monster, you can now Special Summon Metaphys Daedalus and remove it; if they have decided to play defensively and place some Magic/Trap cards, you can Special Summon Metaphys Nephthys ; if you see an open OTK lane in front of you, you can Special Summon Metaphys Tyrant Dragon .

If this card is Special Summoned by the effect of a "Metaphys" monster: You can banish all other face-up Special Summoned monsters on the field. For both of these monsters, they must be Special Summoned by the Metaphys monster's effect and therefore must be Special Summoned by Metaphys Tyrant Dragon to use their removal effect. Additionally, both stability boosts will need to wait until the following turn before they take effect, which seems slow but is standard for Metaphys decks.

  • Metaphys Daedalus gets rid of his opponent's tea-throwing monsters. Since most powerful monsters are Special Summoned, MD's no-target, no-destroy, banish removal can be quite devastating for most decks. However, this effect also banishes your other Special Summoned Metaphys monsters, which on the one hand reduces your presence on the field, but on the other hand prepares the effect for they. The trick to avoid this from happening is to always summon MD first to increase your OTK turn even more.
    • For added consistency, a Metaphys banished by Daedalus can return to the deck itself to banish another Metaphys card from your deck. This prepares the banished Metaphys monster's effect to activate in the next SP.
  • Metaphys Nephthys banishes your opponent's face-down backrows. Most of the time this will only remove combat traps because cards like Raigeki Break or Floodgate Trap Hole , can only be chained to it and you won't get rid of problematic face-up Traps/Magic like Dark Magical Circle . or Fiendish Chain .
    • More importantly, MN will allow you to search for any card present in the archetype the next turn after it is banished. This is great for filling up your hand with combos, such as getting the MD Special Summoned by a banished MTD. You can also look to add your supports like Asym for more disruption and Metaphys Factor for more court presence.

When this card is Normal Summoned: You can banish 1 monster from your hand; banish 1 monster from your Deck with the same Type as that monster. If this card is destroyed by battle, or if this card in its owner's possession is destroyed by an opponent's card effect: You can target 1 of your banished monsters; add it to your hand. You can only use each effect of "Aloof Lupine" once per turn.


The nerfs have also greatly affected decks that rely on Aloof and Metaphys is one of them. That's why the deck has gone in a number of very different playing directions without having to use Aloof . But no matter how you say it, this is still one of the most important Core cards in the deck.

Aloof Lupine will be used to start your turns. Its ability to banish from hand and deck is useful for activating Metaphys 's effects. In most cases, you will want to banish a Nepthys , from the hand or deck, because of its search effect. The remaining leaves to expel depend on what you have/need.

  • Banishing Nephthys + Tyrant is suitable when your opponent has face-up special summoned monsters. You can banish them all by looking for Daedalus to be special summoned by Tyrant 's effect.
  • If you get to play first turn, you can banish Nephtys + Daedalus -> Nephthys to get more searchers or go with Nephthys + Tyrant to special summon another Tyrant to your field.
  • Even if Aloof Lupine is captured by Floodgate Trap Hole or 1 Paleozoic Canadia , you can still banish one Metaphys monster from your hand and one monster from your Deck.

Aloof Lupine, when destroyed, can return the banished card to you. It's useful if you need an extra MTD that's stuck in the banish pile because you don't have any Metaphys monsters to summon in your hand. Otherwise, you generally shouldn't add cards from that banish pile if they're about to activate in the next SP.

    Once per turn: You can banish 1 "Metaphys" card from your hand, and if you do, draw 1 card. Once per turn, if your "Metaphys" card in its owner's possession is banished: Apply this effect depending on whose turn it is. ● Your turn: All monsters on the field lose 500 ATK/DEF, except "Metaphys" monsters. ● Opponent's turn: Change the battle positions of all monsters on the field, except "Metaphys" monsters.


    Use Asymmetaphys to activate your Metaphys monster effects while also going through your Deck by drawing cards. If you don't have a Metaphys monster in hand, you can also banish a copy of Asym or Metaphys Dimension (this card is not recommended).

    • The ATK/DEF reduction effect is permanent, even if this card leaves the field. Reducing the ATK and DEF of your opponent's monsters will help Metaphys Tyrant Dragon easily overcome them and finish off your opponent with a second attack.
    • The final effect triggers if you banish a Daedalus during your turn. Daedalus will banish another Metaphys from your deck, activating Asymmetaphys and putting your Aloof Lupine in a defensive position.

    You will have to be careful with the final effect because you have to anticipate it. If your Aloof Lupine already has 0 ATK, DO NOT move it to a defensive position if you banish a Daedalus . This will cause your Lupine to go into attack mode on your opponent's turn.

      Each turn, 1 Level 5 or higher "Metaphys" monster you Normal Summon can be Summoned without Tributing, but banish it during the End Phase of the next turn. Your opponent cannot activate cards or effects in response to your "Metaphys" monsters' effect activations.


      Metaphys ' environmental magic gives you an easier way to bring monsters onto the field. However, since they are not Special Summoned by the Metaphys monster's effect, they are basically just big punchers/meatbags. Being banished during the End Phase of your opponent's turn ensures your field is clear during their turn and your Metaphys monster is ready to activate its effect when your SP arrives.

      The second effect prevents your opponent from negating the effects of your Metaphys monster. It also makes Metaphys Nephthys 's Trap/Magic removal much more effective, by locking the opponent's backrow during its summon.

      Partly because of the recent banlist, you may need to use more than 1 copy of this card to accompany Soul Release or Chaos Distill in some combos if Metaphys monsters are destroyed and sent to the grave.

        If your opponent Special Summons a monster (except during the Damage Step): You can target 1 of your banished "Metaphys" monsters; Special Summon it, but banish it during the End Phase of the next turn. If your other "Metaphys" card in its owner's possession is banished while this card is already face-up in your Spell & Trap Zone: You can target 1 card your opponent controls; banish it. You can only use each effect of "Metaphys Dimension" once per turn.


        Similar to the Field Spell in the prototype, Metaphys Dimension provides presence on the field without activating the Metaphys monster's first effect. The difference is that while Metaphys Factor summons Metaphys during your turn, Metaphys Dimension will usually summon Metaphys during your opponent's turn. This also means that Metaphys monsters Special Summoned by Metaphys Dimension will usually be banished during your End Phase.

        The second effect is really powerful as it will be triggered quite often by Daedalus , Metaphys Factor , Metaphys Tyrant Dragon and itself. Basically, anything that activates Asym , will activate the second effect of Metaphys Dimension .



        Techs

        The Techs in the deck are usually not used too much on cards that prevent effects, avoid effects or remove backrows. Usually they are cards that help preserve LP and increase banishment for your deck.

            The following suggestions are still quite useful to help protect your Metaphys because you don't want them to be destroyed and sent to the grave. Outside of Soul Release , the deck has no way to restore cards from the grave, and having to wait or rely on 1 card to restore them from the grave is unreliable. That's why I suggest adding these cards.

            When you take battle damage: You can Special Summon this card from your hand, and if you do, gain Life Points equal to the damage you took.


            Since Metaphys monsters don't stay on the field for long, there will be times when you don't have monsters on the field or if you don't want to take the first turn because you can only special summon the next Daedalus at the next SP. Having a handtrap helps the deck a lot in preventing potential OTKs and controlling the damage you take in general.

            Other handtraps are fine, but Boxer Veil is used more because it can even activate when your opponent attacks your monster. Restoring your LP will preserve the Grit skill or become eligible to use Destiny Draw , which cannot be done with Kiteroid or Sphere Kuriboh .

                Banishing your Metaphys will reactivate them again in SP and shuffle them back into the deck. So these cards essentially restore your Metaphys monsters, as well as being able to banish your opponent's cards to stop certain turns of play.

                • Soul Release is a situational card because the archetype doesn't actually go to the grave, so they are only sent there IF they are destroyed by combat. But having more than 1 copy isn't so bad because banishing cards in your opponent's graveyard can be useful against a lot of decks.
                • Chaos Distill works like Soul Release but only at your grave, if you want to increase stability you should pair it with Dark World Dealings . Not only that, coupled with the skill Allured by Darkness is also quite good when you have handtraps to adjust your LP and due to the skill's ability to force you to discard all the cards in your hand as a price to pay if you don't have a monster. DARK to banish, which can banish Metaphys from hand with Chaos Distill .

                    This is a playstyle I think would go very well with Chaos Distill . Due to the effect of Chaos Distill , if you want to discard cards to the grave, they must be banished. Therefore, the cost of drawing cards from Dark World Dealings is an additional bonus for you. Use this card and the Allured by Darkness skill as your main card drawing engine.

                      All "Gravekeeper's" monsters gain 500 ATK and DEF. Cards in the Graveyard cannot be banished. Negate any card effect that would move a card in the Graveyard to a different place. Negate any card effect that changes Types or Attributes in the Graveyard.


                      To be honest, using cards is quite situational and can sometimes delay you for a few necessary turns. This is a typical side-deck card that can afford to be in the main deck based on the meta, otherwise it is a dead card for some matchups. Its main use is to remove GY as a resource, eliminating plays for grave-dependent decks. Necrovalley serves as another objective to eliminate your opponent's backrow and can be the difference between letting your Asymmetaphys or Metaphys Dimension remain on the field.

                          When an opponent's monster declares a direct attack: Shuffle all your opponent's Attack Position monsters into the Deck.


                          Of course, you will really need to use these cards because after all, you have lost some good protection options like Kiteroid or Treacherous Trap Hole (because they are all numbered like Aloof and have to make room for Aloof ). They also help you somewhat get rid of your opponent's main monsters so that next turn, you are the one to defeat them.

                            An interesting side deck option that banishes your Metaphys upon destruction instead of sending them to the grave, in addition to potentially disrupting your opponent's synergies, such as banishing The White Stone of Ancients . However, the implementation of DDG will be very situational and unpredictable. Options that serve a similar function of banishing monsters from the graveyard include Big Burn and Soul Release .

                            In addition to Soul Release , I've been checking out another way to increase banishment during my recent Duel Link web crawls, Freed the Brave Wanderer , a monster from Tristan Taylor 's lvl-up reward. It has the effect: "Once per turn: You can banish 2 LIGHT monsters from your Graveyard to target 1 face-up monster on the field whose ATK is higher than this face-up card; destroy that target ." seems to come in handy in quite a few long matches. Of course, "IF" you don't have a terrible hand and first draw, many people will just surrender when Deadalus pokes them in the head and banishes all their monsters

                            If 3 or more of your LIGHT monsters are banished, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand). Once per turn, this card cannot be destroyed by battle.


                            Using Lightray cards in combination with the Metaphys line is also an extremely stable combination. Their abilities are always activated when a LIGHT monster is banished or activated to banish LIGHT monsters.

                            • In the case of Grepher , it can be used in combination with Chaos Distill or Soul Release .                             Some general tips and notes

                            • When banished, the game will prioritize monster effects in the following order: Daedalus , Nephthys , then Tyrant Dragon .
                            • With all the banishing going on and only three Metaphys monsters to go around, it can be easy to confuse them with each other and forget what was banished when. You don't want to make the mistake of getting a Metaphys from Aloof Lupine or Metaphys Dimension that is used to activate in an upcoming SP. Like the grave, your banish pile is arranged from the oldest cards to the newest cards, so it's best to click on the "list" of the banish pile to see before entering both players' SP.
                            • If you commit to special summoning MTD, banish MTD as soon as possible after your opponent is forced into passive play (i.e. placing monsters and backrows with a maximum of one special summon) as there is can get more cards and simplify the turn state in your favor to actually start pushing safe damage and not giving your opponent time to draw what they might need to reset the field their.

                            • If you play against D/D/D players, you should pay a little attention to using the Metaphys effects in your opponent's SP.                                                                             This combo was thought up and developed by me myself. Even though only Dark World Dealings is a bit weak, it's worth using this card. The ideal combo is when your hand has Asym , Dark World Dealings , Chaos Distill and at least 1 Metaphys monster.

                                                                            • Activate Asym and banish 1 Metaphys monster to draw 1 card. Asym will help you reduce the ATK/DEF of enemy monsters by 500 points.
                                                                            • Assuming the card you draw is a Metaphys monster, you will want to activate Chaos Distill . Then Dark World Dealings to draw 1 card and discard 1 card (that will be the Metaphys monster just drawn). Due to the effect of Chaos Distill , monsters dropped into the Graveyard will be banished. Therefore, that monster's effect will be activated.
                                                                              • Suppose if you draw a magic card or trap, it is best to activate Dark World Dealings before Chaos Distill to avoid that magic card or trap being banished and unable to be reused.
                                                                            • At this point, do you think the combo stops here? Don't be so naive, if you just lost LP, I think 2000 LP, take advantage of that and activate the skill Allured by Darkness , draw 2 more cards, but here, you will have to discard all the cards. in his hand to the grave. However, instead of doing that, those cards will be banished thanks to the effect of Chaos Distill , so if all of those cards are Metaphys monsters then it seems like you are very lucky, but if Another monster? Don't worry too much because the expulsion of all cards only happens when you activate the skill, but if you take advantage of all the cards just drawn by Dark World Dealings , activating the skill will only cause you to lose 2 cards (or gain 2 leaves).
                                                                            Thus, through this combo, you will draw a total of up to 4 card draws (not to mention the few cases where you draw Dark World Dealings , which will be more than 4 draws).

                                                                            The truth is that the Metaphys card line has been nerfed and its power has been severely reduced. But it doesn't mean that the deck has lost its inherent power, it doesn't mean that it can't behead all the currently top tier meta lines. With just a little change and a little luck in your card draws, this line of cards is still worth using to climb higher ranks.
