A guide to one of the recent new decks: Nouvelles

About Archetype

About Archetype

Our story begins in 2000, when the " Pharaoh's Servant " pack was released in the OCG. It was a deck containing many Ritual monsters, including Hungry Burger - a level 6 Ritual monster with 2000 attack points, a Warrior-type in a rather confusing way, since there was nothing in its design or concept related to Warriors. At that time, Hungry Burger did not leave any special impression and was quickly forgotten.

Fast forward to 2023, when Deck Build Pack: Wild Survivors was released, and we were introduced to a brand new Ritual archetype – specifically designed to support Hungry Burger . According to the story created for this archetype, it tells the story of a restaurant whose cuisine is so good that even demons from hell come to eat there. Interestingly (and somewhat contradictory) though, none of the cards in this archetype are Fiends. But, as is often the case in the world of Yu-Gi-Oh!, we’ll just have to live with that.

You can use this Skill's first and second effects once per turn if your Deck contains a total of 12 or more cards that are "Nouvelles" and/or "Recipe" cards. 1: If you control "Poissonniere de Nouvelles", Set 1 "Recipe" card from your Deck. (This card can be activated the same turn.) Then, you can apply the following effect. ● Shuffle up to 2 Monster Cards from your hand or face-up field into the Deck, then draw the same number of cards. 2: From turn 2 onward, add 1 "Concours de Cuisine (Culinary Confrontation)" from your Deck to your hand.

Deck Nouvelles has its own skill called " Fiendish Gourment Recipe" . As usual, let's read this skill.

First, you can only use each effect of this skill once per turn , and only if your deck has a total of 12 or more Nouvelles and/or Recipe cards .
The "Recipe cards" here are Ritual cards used to summon Nouvelles monsters.

It is worth noting that this skill is not limited to archetypes , meaning you can freely combine with other archetypes and enjoy support from outside. In addition, the skill is also not limited to the number of activations per Duel , which is quite rare and very useful.

First effect : -> In short, you get a free Ritual card , which is great because this is a deck that specializes in Ritual – a deck that often has difficulty having enough resources to operate smoothly. However, with this skill, you can summon Ritual for free, making the deck much stronger and smoother.

Additionally, shuffling unwanted Ritual monsters (that are stuck in your hand) back into the deck to draw another card also helps you improve your "brick" - an inherent weakness of Ritual decks.

Second effect (starting from turn 2 onwards ): -> In short, this skill is a must-have if you want to play the Nouvelles deck, because it provides high stability and solves the archetype's biggest weakness: lack of consistency and easy "dead hand".

[ Pendulum Effect ] If you control a Ritual Monster: You can target 1 monster on the field; Special Summon this card, then change that monster's battle position. You can only use this effect of "Poissonniere de Nouvelles" once per turn. [ Monster Effect ] If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can activate 1 of these effects; ● Add 1 Level 1 Ritual Monster or 1 "Recipe" card from your Deck to your hand. ● Banish any number of "Recipe" cards from your GY and Special Summon 1 "Nouvelles" Ritual Monster from your hand with a Level equal to the number banished. You can only use this effect of "Poissonniere de Nouvelles" once per turn. If this card on the field is Tributed and added to the Extra Deck face-up: You can place this card in your Pendulum Zone.

We start with the Nouvelles Pendulum monster . This is a level 1 Angel monster with… a lot of text — because that's what Pendulum cards are all about.

What you need to remember is:

  • When Summoned, this card allows you to add 1 Level 1 Ritual monster or 1 Recipe card from your deck to your hand .

  • The second effect is to remove any number of Recipe cards from the Graveyard to special summon 1 Ritual Nouvelles monster — this effect is almost never used , since you want to reuse Recipes , not remove them.
→ In other words, don't pay attention to this effect .

Additionally, when this card is Tributed (for example, to a Ritual Spell), it moves to the Pendulum Zone , where it continues to extend the combo because its Pendulum effect allows you to change the battle position of a monster on the field , if you control a Ritual monster.
It may not sound important, but this is the key to turn 1 combos in the deck .

→ In short, Poisonniere is probably one of the strongest cards in the deck , and an indispensable starter . You should play 3 copies .

You can Ritual Summon this card with a "Recipe" card. If this card is Special Summoned: You can excavate the top 5 cards of your Deck, and if you do, you can add 1 excavated "Nouvelles" card to your hand, also shuffle the rest into the Deck. When a card or effect is activated that targets this card on the field, or when this card is targeted for an attack (Quick Effect): You can Tribute this card and 1 Attack Position monster on either field, and if you do, Special Summon 1 Level 2 or 3 "Nouvelles" Ritual Monster from your hand or Deck. You can only use each effect of "Buerillabaisse de Nouvelles" once per turn.

  • When summoned, this card allows you to flip the top 5 cards of your deck and add 1 Nouvelles card to your hand .
→ Note that you can only add Nouvelles, not Recipe , but it's not too worrying.

  • Additionally, it has a unique effect: When targeted by an attack, card, or effect , you can Tribute it along with 1 attack position monster on any field to special summon 1 2- or 3-star Ritual monster from your hand or deck .
→ This is the central gimmick of the archetype .

  • This effect can be triggered by your own effect , for example from Poisonniere 's Pendulum effect .

→ It is the card you always want to have in hand and play as soon as possible . Play 2 or 3 copies , 2 is enough because you can discard the extra copies into the deck with skill.

When a card or effect is activated that targets this card on the field, or when this card is targeted for an attack (Quick Effect): You can Tribute this card and 1 Attack Position monster on either field, and if you do, Special Summon 1 Level 3 or 4 "Nouvelles" Ritual Monster from your hand or Deck. You can only use each effect of "Confiras de Nouvelles" once per turn.

  • When summoned, destroy 1 opponent's Spell/Trap card .

  • Also shares the same effect as Buerillabaisser : targeted → sacrifices itself + attack position monster to summon Ritual monster from deck .
→ But the difference is, it summons level 3 or level 4 .

This card is quite situational. Playing one copy is enough .

You can only use each effect of "Poeltis de Nouvelles" once per turn.

  • When summoned, draw 1 card .

  • It is slightly different from other Ritual monsters: it triggers the tribute effect even when targeting an opponent's monster , or any monster , not necessarily itself.

→ This is a monster that is often summoned by the effect of Buerillabaisse, and is a fairly stable turn 1 ending monster .
Playing 1–2 songs is reasonable.

  • When summoned, allows you to shuffle cards from the graveyard back into the deck , which can be problematic for graveyard-dependent decks.

  • Also has a sacrifice effect to summon a level 5 or 6 Ritual from hand or deck.

→ This card also depends on the situation, not too strong , should only play 1 copy .

This card can be used to Ritual Summon any "Nouvelles" Ritual Monster. You must also Tribute monsters from your hand or field whose total Levels equal or exceed the Level of the Ritual Monster you Ritual Summon. Then, if you Ritual Summoned "Buerillabaisse de Nouvelles", you can apply the following effect. ● Add 1 "Recipe" Ritual Spell from your Deck or GY to your hand, except "Recette de Poisson (Fish Recipe)".

This is a spell used to Ritual Summon any Nouvelles monster.

But if you use it to summon Buerillabaisse , you'll add 1 Ritual Spell card from your deck or Graveyard to your hand , in addition to this one. More specifically, you'll add another "Recipe" card — yes, this archetype has multiple Ritual Spells , and, unbelievably, this isn't a Megalith .

Basically, you should use this card to summon Buerillabaisse — it's written right on the card — to open up further combos.
This is a card worth playing x2. You can start with it or search for it, very convenient.

Then, if you Ritual Summoned "Confiras de Nouvelles", you can apply the following effect. ● Change all Defense Position monsters your opponent currently controls to Attack Position.

The next "Recipe" card is also very important. It has the same effect as the previous card, except if you use it to summon Confiras , you will change all of your opponent's defense position monsters to attack position — extremely useful in Confiras combos , and can sometimes be used to summon any other monster.

Reveal 2 "Nouvelles" monsters with different names from your Deck, your opponent chooses 1 for you to add to your hand, and you shuffle the other into your Deck, then you can add 1 of these cards from your Deck or GY to your hand based on the Monster Type added to your hand by this effect. ● Beast-Warrior: "Recette de Poisson (Fish Recipe)" ● Warrior: "Recette de Viande (Meat Recipe)" You can only activate 1 "Voici la Carte (Today's Menu)" per turn.

You show your opponent 2 Nouvelles monsters with different names from your deck , they choose 1 for you to add to your hand, the other is shuffled back into the deck.
Then, depending on the type of monster you add to your hand, you will add Recette de Poisson (Fish Recipe) if it is a Beast-Warrior or Recette de Viande (Meat Recipe) if Warrior — from hand or Graveyard.

This card gives your opponent a choice which may sound bad, but you can proactively choose cards that no matter what they choose, you will still get what you want .
For example, if you give Buerillabaisse and Poissonniere , you are almost certain to get one of the two and the corresponding ritual card , which is great.

During your Main Phase: You can banish this card from your GY, then target 1 face-up monster on the field; it gains 200 ATK for each "Recipe" card in the GYs. You can only use each effect of "Concours de Cuisine (Culinary Confrontation)" once per turn.

You select 1 Pendulum monster and 1 “ Patissciel ” Pendulum monster from your hand, deck, or Extra Deck, then summon both , one monster each.
This effect will lock you out of using non-Nouvelles monsters as Extra Deck materials — but this isn't too important .

From the Graveyard, you can banish this card to gain 200 ATK to 1 monster on the field , and each Recipe card in the Graveyard gains 200 ATK.

This is a great card , as it summons Poissonniere and sends Patissciel to the opponent's side , placing it in attack position so you can sacrifice it later.
Additionally, the Graveyard effect helps trigger Buerillabaisse, Confiras, Roties, or even Fuaglasia (if you play one).

And most importantly — you can find this card with Skill , because this game is very “balanced”.

Additionally, finding cards when activating is optional , so you can still activate even if there are no more valid targets .

You can reveal 1 Ritual Monster in your hand; Special Summon both this card from your hand and 1 "Impcantation" monster from your Deck, except "Impcantation Talismandra". If this card is Special Summoned from the Deck: You can add 1 Ritual Monster from your Deck to your hand. You can only use 1 "Impcantation Talismandra" effect per turn, and only once that turn. You cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck.

Incantation engine is also a supporting option:

                    • These help you summon more monsters to the field to make Ritual easier, and find some cards you might not have in your hand .

                    • If you choose to play Incantations , I recommend:

                      • 3 Pencil Plume leaves – the least preferred monster to call from the deck.

                      • 2 Talismandra cards – find ritual monsters when summoned by Incantation effects.

                      • 1 Candle – find ritual spell

These cards are not required , but they are fun and interesting to play .

You can Ritual Summon this card with "Dogmatikalamity". You cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck. If your opponent activates a card or effect (except during the Damage Step): You can send 1 monster from your Extra Deck to the GY, and if you do, look at your opponent's Extra Deck and send 1 monster from it to the GY. This card gains ATK equal to half the combined ATK of those monsters sent to the GY, until the end of this turn. You can only use this effect of "White Knight of Dogmatika" once per turn.

Dogmatika is also an archetype related to the Ritual beast:

                    • You don't necessarily have to play Dogmatika Ritual monsters , but regular Dogmatika cards are still worth considering , because:

                      • They call more monsters to the field — creating more "bodies".

                      • Self- created disruptive effect .

                      • For example, Maximus is a very powerful card.

                      • This Archetype is highly compatible with Nouvelles because the Nouvelles deck does not depend on the Extra Deck .

                    • You don't need to play Dogmatika's full Ritual combo to be effective. Just playing Ecclesia, Fleurdelis , and a few other cards is enough to see great compatibility and support .

When this card is Normal or Flip Summoned: You can add 1 Ritual Monster from your Deck to your hand.

Finally, there's Fairy of the Thousand Hands and similar monsters:

                    • They are there , but not really necessary .

                    • Not bad, but you should save your Normal Summon for something else.

                    • There are also better options if you want to support Ritual more effectively.

                    Combo

                    Some basic combos:

                    Okay, imagine this :

This is the arena , right? And this is the opening combo you want to do :

                    1. Activate Concours de Cuisine (Culinary Confrontation) to place 1 Patissciel Couverture on your opponent's field and 1 Poissonniere on your field .

                    2. Then, activate Poissonniere 's effect to add Buerillabaisse from the deck to your hand .

                    3. Then activate your ability , as is common in Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links , to place the Recette de Poisson (Fish Recipe) card directly from your deck onto the field .

→ If you have already drawn Bue r , you may not need to use the skill to get Ritual – this is up to you to decide.

                    4. Now that you have the Ritual Spell card , you activate it , sacrificing Poissonniere to special summon Buerillabaisse de Nouvelles to the field.

                    5. Following Poissonniere 's effect , it will move up to the Pendulum zone , where you can activate it – target Buerillabaisse de Nouvelles to activate the effect :

→ Tribute it and Patissciel Couverture on your opponent's side of the field to summon Poeltis de Nouvelles directly from your deck .

At the end of the combo , you will have:

                    • A Poeltis on the field,

                    • A Recette de Viande (Meat Recipe) that you found thanks to the Buerillabaisse summon effect

                    • And any cards you “mine” from Buerillabaisse 's effect — hopefully more resources for expansion .

The important thing to remember is:

                    • You must turn Poissonniere into Buerillabaisse by using Recette de Poisson (Fish Recipe) to find one or both cards (by skill or effect).

                    • Then turn Buerillabaisse into Poeltis de Nouvelles – usually with its effect or a Recipe card you find – and you get another card thanks to Poeltis .

                    • Then you summon Poeltis and either end it there , or find a way to summon Balameuniere de Nouvelles a stronger option to start the game , especially since Balameuniere will help you get Chef's Special Recipe .

                    A few things to say

                    Deck strengths and weaknesses:

First of all , this deck can create some incredibly impressive disruption .

                    In theory, you have:

                    • A monster can sacrifice an opponent's attack position monster .

                    • A monster that negates everything face-up on the field and tributes many other monsters ,

                    • An omni negate ,

                    • Another sacrifice ,

                    • And another sweep of the field .

→ All of this makes for a great interruption toolkit if you think about it.

Like the tradition of modern Ritual decks , this deck offers a lot of card count advantage.

→ And you can find free cards by skill . What more could you ask for?

                    Last but not least :

The skill makes this deck extremely stable , which is great – because I really like stable decks , especially in Duel Links , where almost every deck these days is stable .

And now the weak point :

Being a combo-heavy deck that revolves around Ritual, it is extremely prone to being interrupted mid-game .

                    • An Effect Veiler can end your turn instantly. Sounds sad, right?

                    • Speaking of hand traps, this deck also "auto-loses" if it gets Droll & Lock Bird , because you can't find cards anymore .

                    • Some counters to graveyard cards like Dimensional Barrier are also a problem.
→ Luckily, Duel Links doesn't have Dimension Shifter yet .

                    • And you have no obvious way to get past Nibiru .

Ultimately, this entire archetype depends on whether or not the opponent leaves their monsters in attack position . They can simply switch all of their monsters to defense position , you know –
→ They won't kill you that turn , but you probably won't be able to do anything if they read carefully.

                    Summary:

                    Is this deck strong?

→ I don't really believe this deck has the tools or power to beat the current top meta decks . But it's fun to play , entertaining , and you should give it a try .

→ It 's not too expensive to build (there's no UR in the deck right now), but it can create some really cool bursts .

And you will feel like you are really “COOK” with this deck . Understand? 😄 (Pure cook deck, guys) (I'm joking, laugh)
